Greater than a Disability

Individuals with disabilities are often overlooked by society. In this series of interviews, families open up about the hardships and hopes they have.


 

 

10% of the population has some type of disability. The word "disability" often carries a label. It’s seen as an obstacle. A barrier. These parents remind us how labels can be deceiving and often untrue. These wonderful human beings have so much more to give and offer to the world. But it starts with how we view them and support them first. With the right heart and ideas, we can allow families to thrive in their communities through work, school, education and programs.

With that said, the fears and struggles can be overwhelming. The biggest fear for most families is what’s going to happen when these people when their guardians pass away. Who will take care of them? There’s a gap in our society we need to fill.

This is another conversation we have to have.
